Some random food photos for you! :)
Ayam Pansuh and Umai, Topspot, Kuching, Sarawak
-Ayam pansuh is a chicken dish, cooked in fresh cut bamboos over charcoal fire
*don't that already sound so yummy?
-Umai is a dish made of raw fresh water fish, with citrus base, for those who dare try it, its a taste to remember!

-was quite pricey, and I suppose, nothing to compare to the original ones you get in the longhouses, but if you'd like to try, this is alright

Kueh Chap, Poh Kwong Park commercial area's car park
(at the back of the bakery/4D)
-This is one of my favourite place to eat Kueh Chap,
Rm5.50 for normal, RM6.50 for a special bowl
-Super tasty version of the 'semenanjung's Bah Kut Teh' i suppose

You have to try it for yourself! :)

Red Velvet Cake

Banana Cheese
*I didn't really enjoy this as the bananas were unripe*

A Simple Chicken Curry Recipe

This is just a simple recipe for Chicken Curry, like a chicken curry-for-dummies thing, well I was the dummy. Its suitable for those on-the-go or university students who just have to get their curry fix, like moi. :)

So here goes. First of all you need your herbs, can't cook curry curry without herbs. Its rather simple for this chicken curry, you just need the following.

Fennels seeds

Curry leaves
1 stick of cinnamon
As for your other ingredients, you need,

  • Shallots, 3 or 4 small ones will do, thinly sliced
  • Garlic, 1 or 2 cloves, thinly sliced
  • Potatoes, 2 or 3, chopped into cubes
  • Two chicken thighs, cleaned and chopped
  • One packet of chicken curry powder ( Adabi, alagappa's, babas etc whichever floats your boat :) )
  • Half a cup of coconut milk
Now that you got all that, its time to turn all that into a nice bowl of chicken curry.

1. Firstly, as always, heat up some oil in a frying pan or a wok. Do not skimp on the oil as its important to help all the ingredients you're about to put in come together and bring out the flavour. I skimped on oil once, HUGE disaster.
2. Add in the fennel seeds first. These herbs are very fragrant and rich in flavour so you don't need a whole lot. About 2 teaspoons will do. Give it a quick stir and make sure the heat is not on high as they char easily. Once you can smell fragrance of the fennel seeds, add in the curry leaves.
3. Now, add in the chopped onions and garlic. Stir fry it until it is light yellow in colour. Then, add in the potatoes.
4. The chicken thighs come next. Add them into pan and give it a good stir fry. Making sure to mix in all the ingredients with the chicken thighs as you stir it. Do this until the chicken meat is rather white in colour.
5. Then, comes my favourite part, adding in the curry powder. It would be best to pre-mix the curry powder with some water to make it into a paste. Chuck that in and the rinse too. Gotta get all that awesome-ness in there. The colour of the curry and the smell that comes with it, is what makes it fun to cook. :)
6. Give it a good stir. Mixing in all the goodness of the curry powder with the chicken. Add in the coconut milk as well. If its too thick at this point, you can add some water as well.
7. Now let it simmer for a good 10 - 15 minutes, stirring it from time to time and enjoy the smell filling up your kitchen.
8. And of course, last but least, salt to taste. You can add a little sugar as well to balance out the flavours.
9. When you got it tasting to your liking, SERVE! :) I like it with some soy sauce and a nice fried egg, sunny side up.

Voila!:)

And thats about it. Your simple, humble bowl of chicken curry. It may not be the most heavenly tasting one you have ever had, but hey, if you're a traveller, university student or you just got a serious craving with a limited amount of time, it'll do. :)

Like I promised, more food I tried in Espressense! :)

Hot Chocolate on Christmas :)

Moroccan Lamb Stew
*was just..ok, nothing fantastic

Cheese Baked Rice
*this was not bad, but the rice was a little dry

Waffle with honey and butter
*I'm so sorry but this was one of the worst I had
:(

Fried Calamary
*A little oily and the dip needed a little more taste, and I squeezed a little lemon into it (from the fish and chips)

Fish and Chips
*the portion was quite good, but it was again a little too oily

Roasted Thigh
*recommended
:)
Really enjoyed this!

Nasi Lemak (without Chicken Rendang)
*was more worth the money compared to the one with rendang
but this was pretty good as well
:)

Oh yea, I tried the Chicken Spaghetti with Spanish Chicken too!but I don't have the picture, sorry :P
I recommend that too! Its a little different from your usual spaghetti as it is a little spicy, but its really yummy!

Eat,eat,eat!

Food in Sibu (part 1)

Yes, I am currently in Sibu, and for those who are stuck in the same place as I am, here are some places I've tried and the few MUST TRY places..

I am not exactly familiar with the roads in Sibu but I'll try to mention landmarks and buildings..:)

First place I went to was Ipoh Town, in the Bus terminal area, near the newly opened Maxis centre, the food there was goo and I really recommend the Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken Wings.@.@
Was really yummy, here see! see! :P

Most of their food on the menu was quite ok too, but if you ever want to order the green tea, be specific as that's the first time I had a cup of icky green tea served with sugar to me..yuck..dint like it..:P

Next was Raro, I tried out the western food there, and it was quite good, and the ambience was good as well!
Mushroom Soup, was slightly salty for me..but was..humm..good!

Chicken chop

Fried rice, i think this was the Indonesian Style,
personally I didn't like it, it has the smoky taste, some people may find it yummy.. :)

Triple Play, this was what it was called la..:P
Fried Calamari, Fried Chicken Wings and Fried Fish Fillets

Oh ya! they also serve freshly made fruit juices! the pricing was not bad, some what expected for Western Food. For those not fond of Western Food, they have eastern or Chinese dishes as well, do try it out when you can! :)

Next is Cafe Cafe, and they have 2 branches, on located in Giant, (at the big Giant, not the one in Sanyan xD) on the ground floor, where the ATM are and the other which is in town centre, right next to the Chinese temple opposite Rajang river. :)

They have quite a limited menu but it was pretty good, the service, ambience, and food. Cafe cafe has 3 levels and I heard that the 3rd uppermost floor can be booked for special occasion! *hint to them boys~

In the same row as Cafe Cafe you can find a japanese restaurent, Zen, and they serve pretty good food there! :)
Well, I sometimes get craving for Japanese food and there's where I go to in Sibu. :)

However, I do find the price a little expensive in these places i mentioned in the row of shops opposite Rajang river, so I've reserved it for special occasions!

I guess that's all for now~

:)
